Bramall Close
This scheme was paired with the redevelopment of Idmiston Road, another infill site to the south end of a pedestrian route through the site. Both schemes are part of Newham council’s Wave 1 Small Sites development programme and will provide 16 homes for affordable rent.
The proposal sits on a former parking area and accommodates two houses and a block of 14 flats, together providing 39% family homes.
The designs for the two sites are conceived of as integral to one another with a strong family resemblance expressed in form and detail. The undulation of plans and facades, which reflect one another and create visual interest, also helps the new buildings nestle comfortably into the context, avoiding abrupt relationships.
The proposed buildings repair the fragmented urban fabric at Bramall Close, masking a prominent 4-storey blind gable wall, to provide active street frontage. The block of flats and houses is positioned to frame a gateway to the pleasant green space that the existing pedestrian path runs through.
