Both Rehearsal Rooms and Material Store have been shortlisted for the Brick Awards 2018 in the large housing development category. Watch this space, winners to be announced on November 8 at the Hilton Park Lane.

Finalists for BCIA 2018

Rehearsal Rooms, Newground’s fully let BTR scheme in North Acton, has been shortlisted for a British Construction Industry Award in the Housing Project of the Year category.

UK’s first BTR triplex homes complete

Newground’s Material Store, the first build-to-rent triplex homes to be constructed in the UK and part of a new neighbourhood at The Old Vinyl Factory regeneration scheme in Hayes, are complete.

The development consists of four ‘warehouse’ blocks which rise above a podium and surround an oasis of private patios and a large shared garden.

“Material Store’s varied mix of unit types, flexible commercial space and extensive gardens promises to make this a great place to live, work and play,” said Newground’s Jordan Perlman.

The NLA showcases Newground’s Rehearsal Rooms and Material Store in its publication London’s Towns: Shaping a polycentric city and at an exhibition of schemes promoting good growth in the city’s outer zones, which runs until mid-January at The Building Centre.

A chance to visit Rehearsal Rooms

Newground is participating in Open City’s Open House London event 2017. Architect-led tours of the mixed-use project will be held on Saturday, September 16, and will run every hour from 11.15.

Architecture’s easy compared to golf

Newground celebrated its annual Mini-Golf Tournament at Swingers. We say so long to our intern Thomas Leach who returns to university and won the event.

Affordable model for RIBA’s New Urban Agenda

Newground’s Housing 2020 design was featured in an exhibition entitled ‘Delivering the New Urban Agenda through Competitions’ as part of RIBA International Week. Our entry was shortlisted earlier this year in Taylor Wimpey’s Project 2020 competition which sought housing typologies to alleviate the UK’s housing shortage.

Rehearsal Rooms complete

The first residents have moved into their new homes at Newground’s recently completed high-density mixed-use development in west London.

The 173 flats, located a minute’s walk from the North Acton tube station, were specifically designed for the private rented sector.

Roof gardens, allotments, a residents’ lounge and an on-site supermarket all contribute to a sense of community.

Topping-out ceremony at Material Store

Representatives from Hub, Fizzy Living, Interserve and Newground attended the Material Store topping-out ceremony on the roof of the tallest block on the site, which will in future house the residents’ roof garden with sweeping views across London.

The milestone was reached just over a year after construction began.

A construction apprentice scheme is in operation on the site and the occasion was marked by the trowelling of the last of the roof-level concrete by one of the local apprentices. This was followed by festivities in the Vinyl Canteen.

Shortlisted for Taylor Wimpey Project 2020 RIBA Design Competition

Newground recently submitted proposals for the Project 2020 Competition to design a range of innovative housing typologies.

This was an open and anonymous competition and we have been shortlisted along with 5 other practices. Taylor Wimpey will be working with the winning team with a view to building prototypes, which could be used in their wider standard portfolio of homes.

Client Hub Residential wins Small Developer of the Year at the Resi Awards 2016

We are proud to have contributed to the success of our client Hub and are currently on site delivering two schemes comprising some 341 units which will add to their growing portfolio of projects in London.

Material Store shortlisted for Housing Design Awards 2016

Newground has been shortlisted for an HDA Award for our scheme at the Old Vinyl Factory, which proposes a range of innovative housing types for the PRS market.

Lime Tree House receives planning consent

Working on a complex site in Notting Hill, Newground has achieved planning success for a 2-level subterranean courtyard house.

We are now working with consultants towards an anticipated start on site in summer 2016.

Material Store starts on site

Following a successful planning application for client Hub Residential in 2015, Newground is now working with Interserve Construction to deliver the 189-unit mixed-use scheme in Hayes.

This continues our objective of working through both design and delivery stages and will add to our growing portfolio of built work.

Rehearsal Rooms has topping-out ceremony

The topping out of our 152-unit PRS scheme in North Acton was marked by a visit from Housing Minister Brandon Lewis.

Old Vinyl Factory’s Material Store receives planning consent

Full planning consent is received. The Hillingdon Planning Committee praises the scheme for its high quality of design and grants approval unanimously. Work is anticipated to start on site later in the year.

Architecture Tomorrow MIPIM UK

Newground Architects has two projects selected to appear in The Architecture Tomorrow Gallery at MIPIM UK from 21-23 October in Olympia, London.

Victoria Square starts on site

Work on Newground’s 152-unit PRS (Private Rental Sector) scheme for MNG and HUB has started on site.

The Old Vinyl Factory

Newground is working alongside masterplanner Studio Egret West and developers HUB Residential and Cathedral on the regeneration of the former site of EMI Vinyl Factory in Hayes.

We are designing the new Materials Store block for submission for reserved matters/full planning approval in summer 2015, and a start on site later in the year.

Soho Planning Success

Planning permission has been granted for conversion of existing office building to residential apartments for client Soho Ltd.

Newground proposals provide 4 contemporary apartments at upper levels with a new retail/office space at ground level fronting onto Greek Street.

Work on site is expected to begin in spring 2015.

Mixed Use Feasibility in Bloomsbury

Newground have developed feasibility proposals for a 6-7 storey residential block on a complex site in Bloomsbury.

Various typologies have been explored to provide contemporary homes in the tight urban context. Basement space is likely to be used for large floorplate office use.

Newground Architects has designed a single family house with roof garden and small ground floor patio, to fit in a gap between two exisiting terraces.

Victoria Square update

Newground is working with a full team of consultants on construction information in preparation to go on site late summer.

Planning Permission granted on Victoria Square

Full Planning consent has been granted by LB Ealing for our mixed use scheme for Hub Residential in west London.

The project proposes 152 units in two blocks of 10 and 16 storeys above retail and parking. We are currently developing construction information and the project is due on site in Spring 2015.

Private House in South Africa

Newground is designing a high end private residence on a cliff side site in Johannesburg. This marks another addition to the commissions that complement our portfolio of larger urban projects and offer opportunities to develop special design concepts working with individual clients.

Office conversion in central London

Newground, working with clients Soho Housing Association and Soho Limited, are developing proposals for a 800sqm refurbishment in Bloomsbury.

Proposals include a new entrance, access and natural light to the basement to provide an exciting space for suitable non-residential uses.

Private Rented Sector

As Private Rented Sector begins to play a part in London’s housing market, Newground have completed a number feasibilities including space planning and specification which differs from the usual private and affordable residential design. We have recently been appointed on a project in West London.

Southwark Peer Review

Newground has been involved with the Peer Review process on a number of projects which form part of the Directly Funded 1000 Homes Initiative. Having worked on the earlier stages of some of the relevant projects in previous employment, we were invited to contribute to the review process.

Cleveland Street apartment completed

Newground have recently completed a private flat conversion in Fitzrovia in central London.

This is the first completed scheme amongst a number of similar projects for private clients in the West End.

Rubicon Court featured as a cover story in the AJ. The project has also had extensive coverage in a number of publications including New London Quarterly and has been shortlisted for awards including NLA and Housing Design Awards. For more information, click here.

NLA Pecha Kucha, King’s Cross

Jordan participated in the Pecha Kucha evening exploring the rich and evolving architectural character of King’s Cross.
The evening involved a series of presentations from key architects and designers who presented their work on the site and ideas about the future of the area.
